About Me

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MA #10608) and Postpartum Support International Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C) specializing in therapy for OCD and Perinatal/Maternal Mental Health. I am committed to supporting individuals through some of the most challenging and transformative periods of their lives. I bring a strong combination of expertise and compassion to my practice.

How I Work

I utilize a combination of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, integrated with narrative therapy, metaphor, strengths-based counseling, and a comprehensive understanding of human functioning. This multifaceted approach is designed to support your journey towards improved well-being. Everything I do is based in evidence and science, and everything is also based in our humanity.

My practice is a safe and confidential place to discuss reproductive health issues, including neonatal loss, termination, fertility, and other related topics. Your privacy is protected both by my standard privacy practices and the laws of the state of Massachusetts.

Credentials

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Massachusetts (LMH-C)
  • PSI Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C)
  • Certified in Newborn Behavioral Observation through the Brazelton Institute, Harvard Medical School, and Boston Children’s Hospital

Services Offered

I provide individual counseling for individuals struggling with OCD and a variety of mental health issues related to pregnancy, birth, neonatal loss, becoming a parent, fertility treatment, and co-occurring mental health problems.

Availability

I anticipate more openings in March/April of 2025. For current availability, please email me at therapist@samuelutz.com.

Insurance Information

Insurance availability is often changing. Contact me via email.

Out-of-Pocket Payment

If you have private health insurance that I am not paneled with, paying out-of-pocket may be possible. Contact me for more details.

Patient Demographics

I work exclusively with adult clients. Although I may interact with infants as part of my perinatal work, I do not see children or adolescents individually.

Medication

Prescribing medication is not within my scope of practice. While I can discuss medication options, recommendations and prescriptions must be handled by someone who practices using psychiatric medication, such as a Doctor, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.

Insurance In-Network Listing

Being listed as in-network by your insurance does not obligate me to take you on as a client. Therapy requires a good fit between therapist and client, which is why I conduct initial phone consultations.

Telehealth Services

I encourage in-person sessions for the best therapeutic experience. However, I do offer telehealth for those who need it due to weather, childcare, or other circumstances. Even with telehealth, a few in-person sessions per year may be necessary for optimal assessment and care.

Service Area

My license restricts me to practicing within Massachusetts. Clients must be physically located within the state.

Legal and Mandated Services

  • I do not provide mental health consultations for legal issues.
  • I typically only work with clients who seek therapy voluntarily, not those mandated by DCF, probation, jail, or court
